Resources we use for homeschooling

The first thing I will say about learning at home is … make it easy and accessible!
Have a basket in your lounge full of learning activities, projects, print outs and books + a pencil case full of goodies. Your home may be a mess 24/7 but you will have happy kids in a relaxed environment.

We are only in our first year of homeschooling but here are a list of resources we have found useful so far:

Reading Eggs - interactive lessons in reading and math are available on this site.

The Good and The Beautiful - a huge range of subjects. So far we have been using the english and math resources. They also have great Facebook pages to following along.

Twinkl - NZ based. A huge range of downloadable activites.

Clouds of Colour - yes these are my own learning modules! I created them based on how my son enjoyed learning. A mix of creative projects, alphabet and number practise.

Green Grubs - A selection of learning activities to choose from and download.

Wai Ako - Te Reo learning activities and videos. This site has a 2 week trial then it is paid monthly membership.

Te Reo Maori Classroom - These are really great downloadables!

Science Kids - science games, experiments, projects for all ages.

Studyjams - science experiments and math

I also keep a blank paged book full of my son’s random questions. We use these questions for future projects.
Recently he asked about gold, this led to going gold panning, learning about the local gold rush history, how to find gold, what gold is used for etc. We spent a week learning about it!
The best part about this way of learning is that it is all sparked by your child’s curiosity.
And I must admit, I am learning far more now than I did at school!

Our favourite learning books have been a mixed selection from The Warehouse and Whitcoulls - these are all engaging and fun for kids.

Happy learning!
