Shop: Barbadoes Street House Art

Barbadoes Street, Christchurch

Years ago when I studied Graphic Design in Christchurch I lived in this beautiful big 2 storied, 7 bedroom villa with a group of friends. It was one of the best years of my life. Filled with adventures, creativity and millions of fun memories with some of my absolute best best buddies. After the Christchurch earthquake, this house was not liveable anymore and is now boarded up.
I try to make a special trip to drive past it if I’m ever in Christchurch – taking a moment to remember all the fun times had.
The last time I drove past, I decided it was time to draw it. I snapped a quick pic on my iPhone and went home to sketch. This is the result.
Drawing this has made me realise just how much homes mean to us all. That the 4 walls are filled with everyone’s history & memories.
Do you have a house in particular that you’ve lived in & filled with memories? I’d love to hear your story!
PS: This artwork is available as a fine art print here.

Shop: Follow Your Art

Follow your art - floral print Follow you art by Bec Brown, Clouds of Colour 1 Follow you art by Bec Brown, Clouds of Colour 2

Its actually kind of funny how this art print came about – I was scouting quotes on Pinterest & read a ‘Follow your heart’ quote wrongly and thought it had said ‘Follow your art’. Dannnng thats clever! BOOM lightbulb moment – new print design. Follow your art with a floral heart – print now available on the Shop. And heres the result. Its everything I’m about. I love this piece so much that I went straight to the picture framers. If you need anything framed head to – The Framing Rooms, Collingwood Street, Nelson. They are just delightful!

Clouds of Colour art

Gooood Morning! This week we have got sooo much done on the house renovations – I’m looking forward to sharing some before & after images in the next few days. These will be of little DIY’s or even room make-overs we have done.
Last weekend I stayed at Kaiteri Beach – the image below shows the stunning view from one of the little walks near the beach. Sunset there is magic.

This weeks…
Article: this guy creates art on the beach using only a rake. Very cool when seen from above.
Video: A friend posted this video on Facebook and I loveeee it – ‘Inspiration in Hidden Places: Paris Behind the Scenes‘.

Have a wonderful weekend! xobec

Art: Floating geometric large painting

Bec Brown painting - large geometric piece 4

For my bedroom I wanted to create a piece of art work in the same style as I usually do but LARGE! I wanted the piece to be simple, balanced & tie in with the colours in my room.
I stretched my own canvas on to an old window frame and sat in front of the piece until ideas started to form. As they formed, I put them on the canvas. This is what I created!

At first I didnt like it (as with most of my pieces) it has grown on me and now I loooove it. It makes my room feel so much bigger and waaaay more interesting. What I loved most about creating this was that I let anything happen. The image above displays part of the painting that has a cool story in how it was created – as I was drawing the geometric patterns a little bug landed where the paper plane shape now sits. A light bulb went off – the little bug should have a place on here! His wing shape was like a paper plane.

At some point I would like to screen print my own duvet cover & apply the same geometric patterns to it.
So my bedroom is almost complete! I also FINALLY found an old ladder to use as my bookshelf – yipeeeee!
Hope you all had an amazing weekend and cutesy Valentines Day xx xobec
