Ellerslie Flower Show – Christchurch

This past weekend Mum and I took a trip down to the Ellerslie Flower Show in Christchurch. It was better than I imagined it to be! A nice sunny Christchurch day, live music and a perfect creative vibe in the air. Here are a few snaps from our day there.

One of my friends received gold for the Mexican inspired design above – soooo clever huh! I love the use of colours, reflective patterns & texture in the plants.
If you get the chance to go next year – I highly recommend it!
Have you been to Ellerslie? xobec

Shop: Green bicycle

Green Bike, blue door by Bec Brown

Good morning friends!
I have been working on this commision piece this week – a green bicycle + green doors. The idea/mood behind it was the feeling of having just been to the morning market to collect beautiful flowers (and eat a quick croissant & coffee!). I love the blue doors that the bike is leaning on (that was a last minute addition) – I think it really adds to the overall mood.
This artwork is available as an 8×10″ fine art print on Clouds of Colour Shop.
Have a lovely day!xobec

Twenty 14

New Zealand Landscape

It’s time to think about new goals, dreams & wishes for 2014! I’m excited for this year with so many things I want to achieve.
Each year I choose a word to live my year by. Last year was ‘bravery’ – so each decision I made was based on this word. I achieved a lot with it. So this year I’ve decided on the word ‘adventure’. I want a year full of fun, laughter, exploring and adventures with friends and family.
What are a few of your goals this year? Anything you’d love to achieve?
Here are a few of mine…
♦ Have another exhibition
♦ Design 5 fabric patterns
♦ Attend 2 market stalls
♦ Collaborate with local artists on fun creative projects
♦ Road trip the North Island of New Zealand
♦ Visit America
♦ Take a roll of film photos each season & print them

Arthurs Pass, New Zealand

Arthurs Pass has to have been my most favourite drive of all. The most stunning New Zealand landscapes – sweeping mountains, blue flowers hug the sides of the roads that lead down into stunning valleys. I could have stayed here for my whole holiday!

There is a train called the TranzAlpine which runs from Greymouth to Christchurch, passing through Arthurs pass. The shot above is of the railways which has blue lupins along it. One of my goals this year is to take this train ride through winter when the mountain tops are coated in fresh white snow.
An absolute MUST when visiting New Zealand is to spend time going through here.
Amazing.
The BEST. xobec

West Coast, New Zealand

Part two of my mini South Island road trip:
We then drove further down the coast stopping in a few small towns and eventually ending up in Hokitika. The drive down the West Coast is full of beautiful native New Zealand flax bushes, Nikau Palms & Ferns and crazy wild coastlines.
I loooove this photo above of the seagulls – the third bird from the left is so gansgter! haha!

The locals in Hokitika are the absolute coolest. You’ll never find more chilled out, cruisey kiwi’s! If you visit Hokitika, get a pizza from Fat Pipi’s Pizza and take it down to the beach at Sunset Point. Here, you can watch the sun go down & the crazy waves crashing on the beach.
A short drive away is the glow worm dell – which is sooo cool! xobec
