Home Style Snapshots

Lac curtains + Brixton hat + Birdcage

While the big storm hit New Zealand today, I took the chance to take a few snap shots of our new home. At some point I will go through each room showing the before and after snaps… but for now I hope you enjoy checking out this little update =)

DSW Chairs + Sunflowers + Lace Curtains + Industrial Lighting Sunflowers

I absolutely LOVE DCW chairs so we paired them with our oak dining table. We also decided to add white industrial lighting to the dining/kitchen area. Styled with my faaaaave – sunflowers!

Mustard candles + lace curtains + Plants DIY Gold Towel Hooks

We wanted to have a wee bit of fun in the bathroom as the rest of the house has a lot of black & white. We used turquoise & gold to highlight a few features – above are some towel hooks which I found at the dump and spray painted gold. Spray painting old pieces is SUCH an amazing way to transform them.

I also tested out some macrame today – which ill share on the blog properly soon.
The other DIY I did in the bathroom is the artwork above. For this I drew straight onto the wall and spray painted an old gilt frame found at the dump. Cool huh? Its funny how drawing on the wall feels so…naughty! I guess thats from childhood (haha).
I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out this wee update. Mum and I are having soooo much fun doing up this house – a project we have always wanted to achieve together! xobec

DIY: Floral wall lettering

Floral wall lettering DIY 6

Since moving into our new home, I have had a brain full of sooo many ideas. This one was inspired by the floral lettering I have available on my Etsy Shop and after browsing Pinterest – I came across this idea! So here is my version using the same technique..

I used cardboard paper mache lettering from the craft store which I then cut the top of so it was hollow. Next, I cut, fitted and glued pieces of floral foam – this made fastening the fake flowers soooo easy. Remember to cut a hole in the back of each letter so you can fasten them to the wall.

I also found these black plastic birds to surround my pretty floral letters.
This is the first piece of artyness to go up in the new house. I looooove it! And thought it was a perfect DIY for Valentines Day.
Do you have anything special planned for Valentines Day this year? Any favourite DIY’s?xobec

DIY: Paper doily popcorn holders

We had a group of close friends around for our Christmas Eve dinner. I wanted to display the popcorn in a more fun way so made these super simple yet effective holders.
First I cut black paper into an A5 size and twirled it into a cone shape, securing with tape. Next I used a white paper doilie and secured with bakers twine.

I love simple ways to display food like this! You could also use them for chips, sweets or dried fruit pieces.xobec

This year we decided to try out an alternative Christmas tree – this is a huge branch found at the beach which I spray painted lightly with white to look like snow! And decorated sparsely with silver, turquoise and a few handmade decorations.
I loooove this years tree!
Have you got your tree up yet? What colour combo have you chosen?xobec
