Snapshots from Los Angeles

Bec - Los Angeles street

Im baaack! From an incredible, hard, exciting, challenging and adventurous work trip to Los Angeles! We collected a huge amount of amazing furniture, packaged it all and soon it will be placed in the showroom where I work.
I learnt sooo much along the way and feel so privileged that, from a small town in New Zealand, I had the opportunity to travel overseas.
In this post are a few snapshots from the 2 weeks we were there…

Breakfass in America Breakfast - Abbot Kinney

Waaaay too many delicious breakfasts! I think I could almost start a blog on the food we found in LA – Im actually craving the above photo so much. One thing I really noticed was the food in LA; if youve been to Wholefoods you’ll know what I mean – I LOVE that place!

Graffiti Wall in a cafe - California Cacti - California    Venice Beach, California 2 Venice Beach, California

I had a few favourite spots that, if you’re visiting LA, I would recommend visiting…
♥ Venice Beach – walking along the beach at dusk you will see the footpath lined with performers, little random stalls and loud music. Its a very cool experience and is booming with atmosphere.

Long Beach, California

♥ Long Beach – I could totally live here! I loved the quirky and fun people, street food & second hand shopping/antique stores. We sat at a restaurant as the sun set and watched pelicans flying and diving into the water. Sooo cool!

Sunset - San Diego, California

♥ Ocean Beach, San Diego – there was a bit of a hippy vibe here, lots of surfers, loud music and crazy fun filled shops. There is also a pier that runs out inot the ocean and at sunset, the view is perfection.

Los Angeles city

Traveling is just waaaay too good for ones soul – you learn millions of things without even realising, your mind is opened to others lives and their cultures. The world is just so huge and is begging to be explored.
I love coming back home to family, friends and my own bed but I wouldnt give up experiences like this for anything.
Have you been to LA? Do you have any favourite spots? xobec

Christchurch City, New Zealand

Christchurch - street art

The final part of my mini road trip was Christchurch city. I studied down in Christchurch before the earthquakes and hadnt been down here since. Although it was extremely sad to see so many of the beautiful old buildings gone, the spirit of everyone living in the city and the creativity emerging absolutely blew me away. There are amazing murals, graffiti walls, container shops.##

One place I loved visiting was the Cathedral – I remember walking past here years ago when my room mates and I would go shopping in the city. To view the Cathedral, you walk through a man made tunnel of flowers and cacti.
Brightly coloured art installations line the gates surrounding the Cathedral (see below).

The image above (on right) is of the new cardboard Cathedral designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. You can read more about it here.

Christchurch - street art mural Christchurch container shops

Above is an image of the container shops located in the city centre. This was a 2 story coffee shop with an outdoor area upstairs.
The other thing I loved was the book swap stops dotted around the city. These were recycled pieces of furniture filled with books – the idea is you leave a book and take a book. SUCH a cool idea.

I wish I had been in Christchurch longer, there is so much to explore and see! Until next time…

Northern California adventures

After being in the city for a few days, Arlo I went up the northern coast to explore and visit family. I took these shots along the way! I especially love the ones out of the car window with the sun going down, hot dry fields and silhouettes. It was very pretty and we thoroughly enjoyed our time up there! Which is your favourite pic? xo Bec

Golden Gate bridge

It was 35`C on the day we visited the Golden Gate bridge which for my body is waaay over the limit. Before I almost melted onto the concrete, I got these pics of the very beautiful bridge. Fun fact: the painting of this bridge never stops, once they complete it they have to go back to the start again. Imagine having that job and saying you’ve painted the Golden gate bridge 322 times! Crazzzy! xo Bec

American food… wowsa!

One of things Arlo and I could not get over was the food in San Fran. Not only was it all AMAZING but the portion sizes were huge! We tried chilli cheese fries for the first time, ate the BEST Mexican ever (and as much as we possibly could!) and stocked up on Arizona Iced teas and peanut butter M&Ms! Im already missing the food and would go back just for that! mmmmm yum. Do you have any favourite American foods? xo Bec
