Shop: Barbadoes Street House Art

Barbadoes Street, Christchurch

Years ago when I studied Graphic Design in Christchurch I lived in this beautiful big 2 storied, 7 bedroom villa with a group of friends. It was one of the best years of my life. Filled with adventures, creativity and millions of fun memories with some of my absolute best best buddies. After the Christchurch earthquake, this house was not liveable anymore and is now boarded up.
I try to make a special trip to drive past it if I’m ever in Christchurch – taking a moment to remember all the fun times had.
The last time I drove past, I decided it was time to draw it. I snapped a quick pic on my iPhone and went home to sketch. This is the result.
Drawing this has made me realise just how much homes mean to us all. That the 4 walls are filled with everyone’s history & memories.
Do you have a house in particular that you’ve lived in & filled with memories? I’d love to hear your story!
PS: This artwork is available as a fine art print here.

These photo make me want to go on another road trip exploring New Zealand! The only problem is that every corner you turn, you want to stop and take another photo – its all sooo beautiful!
On our road trip to Ellerslie Flower Show in Christchurch, we went through the Lewis Pass and spent a night in Hanmer. These are the pics from this…

We were so lucky to have sunny weather as it had been snowing and the roads were crazy slippery. Snowing in summer?!

The image above is from one of my favourite pieces of road – lined with a forest of beech trees with their black trunks and bright green leaves. You can smell the fresh forest air as you drive past…sooo good!
This is such a beautiful drive to take – especially when the sun is shining, theres snow on the hills & your favourite tunes are playing =)

Ellerslie Flower Show – Christchurch

This past weekend Mum and I took a trip down to the Ellerslie Flower Show in Christchurch. It was better than I imagined it to be! A nice sunny Christchurch day, live music and a perfect creative vibe in the air. Here are a few snaps from our day there.

One of my friends received gold for the Mexican inspired design above – soooo clever huh! I love the use of colours, reflective patterns & texture in the plants.
If you get the chance to go next year – I highly recommend it!
Have you been to Ellerslie? xobec

Christchurch City, New Zealand

Christchurch - street art

The final part of my mini road trip was Christchurch city. I studied down in Christchurch before the earthquakes and hadnt been down here since. Although it was extremely sad to see so many of the beautiful old buildings gone, the spirit of everyone living in the city and the creativity emerging absolutely blew me away. There are amazing murals, graffiti walls, container shops.##

One place I loved visiting was the Cathedral – I remember walking past here years ago when my room mates and I would go shopping in the city. To view the Cathedral, you walk through a man made tunnel of flowers and cacti.
Brightly coloured art installations line the gates surrounding the Cathedral (see below).

The image above (on right) is of the new cardboard Cathedral designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. You can read more about it here.

Christchurch - street art mural Christchurch container shops

Above is an image of the container shops located in the city centre. This was a 2 story coffee shop with an outdoor area upstairs.
The other thing I loved was the book swap stops dotted around the city. These were recycled pieces of furniture filled with books – the idea is you leave a book and take a book. SUCH a cool idea.

I wish I had been in Christchurch longer, there is so much to explore and see! Until next time…
