Shop: Barbadoes Street House Art

Barbadoes Street, Christchurch

Years ago when I studied Graphic Design in Christchurch I lived in this beautiful big 2 storied, 7 bedroom villa with a group of friends. It was one of the best years of my life. Filled with adventures, creativity and millions of fun memories with some of my absolute best best buddies. After the Christchurch earthquake, this house was not liveable anymore and is now boarded up.
I try to make a special trip to drive past it if I’m ever in Christchurch – taking a moment to remember all the fun times had.
The last time I drove past, I decided it was time to draw it. I snapped a quick pic on my iPhone and went home to sketch. This is the result.
Drawing this has made me realise just how much homes mean to us all. That the 4 walls are filled with everyone’s history & memories.
Do you have a house in particular that you’ve lived in & filled with memories? I’d love to hear your story!
PS: This artwork is available as a fine art print here.

  1. Soursop is a green fruit with tiny thorns, white flesh and black seeds. Usually made into juice. And it’s not sour at all, it’s rather sweet like peach :)

  2. Hey Rebecca! How wonderful to read your comment. The house with the fruit trees sounds magic – what is a soursop? I’ve never heard of it! x

  3. I’ve moved 8 times in my life. And the first house was my favorite though I was just about 5 years old then because the beach was just a 15 minute walk away :) my second favorite was my second house, I was around 10 and we had all these fruit trees in our garden, soursop, mango, coconut. I’ve never lived with friends before like you did, but always had that wish when I was growing up :)))
