Adventures at sunrise

Bec Brown - Boulder Bank, Nelson Sunrise - Boulder Bank, Nelson 3 Sunrise birds - Boulder Bank, Nelson

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and wish I was motivated enough to hop out of bed and watch the sun rise from one of our beautiful New Zealand beaches. Witness the landscape light up in shadows of gold as it greets a new day.
Yesterday I did just that – set my alarm for 6am and ventured into the crisp summer air to breathe in a new day. These photos I snapped have made me want to do this more. It is just sooo totally worth it. It got me ready for a beautiful new day and again, appreciate the stunning country I am so lucky to live in.

There are moments and sights and smells that should be noticed and loved every day.
This was a perfect way to not only start my day, but a new week!
I hope these images brighten your day! xobec

Christchurch City, New Zealand

Christchurch - street art

The final part of my mini road trip was Christchurch city. I studied down in Christchurch before the earthquakes and hadnt been down here since. Although it was extremely sad to see so many of the beautiful old buildings gone, the spirit of everyone living in the city and the creativity emerging absolutely blew me away. There are amazing murals, graffiti walls, container shops.##

One place I loved visiting was the Cathedral – I remember walking past here years ago when my room mates and I would go shopping in the city. To view the Cathedral, you walk through a man made tunnel of flowers and cacti.
Brightly coloured art installations line the gates surrounding the Cathedral (see below).

The image above (on right) is of the new cardboard Cathedral designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. You can read more about it here.

Above is an image of the container shops located in the city centre. This was a 2 story coffee shop with an outdoor area upstairs.
The other thing I loved was the book swap stops dotted around the city. These were recycled pieces of furniture filled with books – the idea is you leave a book and take a book. SUCH a cool idea.

I wish I had been in Christchurch longer, there is so much to explore and see! Until next time…

Arthurs Pass, New Zealand

Arthurs Pass has to have been my most favourite drive of all. The most stunning New Zealand landscapes – sweeping mountains, blue flowers hug the sides of the roads that lead down into stunning valleys. I could have stayed here for my whole holiday!

There is a train called the TranzAlpine which runs from Greymouth to Christchurch, passing through Arthurs pass. The shot above is of the railways which has blue lupins along it. One of my goals this year is to take this train ride through winter when the mountain tops are coated in fresh white snow.
An absolute MUST when visiting New Zealand is to spend time going through here.
Amazing.
The BEST. xobec

Part two of my mini South Island road trip:
We then drove further down the coast stopping in a few small towns and eventually ending up in Hokitika. The drive down the West Coast is full of beautiful native New Zealand flax bushes, Nikau Palms & Ferns and crazy wild coastlines.
I loooove this photo above of the seagulls – the third bird from the left is so gansgter! haha!

The locals in Hokitika are the absolute coolest. You’ll never find more chilled out, cruisey kiwi’s! If you visit Hokitika, get a pizza from Fat Pipi’s Pizza and take it down to the beach at Sunset Point. Here, you can watch the sun go down & the crazy waves crashing on the beach.
A short drive away is the glow worm dell – which is sooo cool! xobec

Punakaiki – South Island, New Zealand

Postcard - Punakaiki, New ZealandPunakaiki, New Zealand

Over the next few days I’ll be sharing my mini road trip adventure of the top of the South Island. I was so lucky to have a few weeks off over Christmas to be able to do this!
First stop was on the west coast – a small town called Punakaiki, famous for its Pancake Rocks & blowholes. These limestone formations were formed 30 million years ago and are truly spectacular.

I was so taken by this place. The gorgeous little winding stone pathways, amazing rock formations with the sea crashing at their base and surrounded by New Zealand flax bushes & Nikau Palms. It was overcast with a light rain which made the whole experience more dramatic.

If you get the chance to visit here, I highly recommend taking this little walk along the coast. Breathtaking & beautiful.xobec
