New Art – Originals

Bubblegum Cheeks - art original by Bec Brown 3

A few of my latest works! I have started adding original artworks to the Etsy Shop – these are not made into prints unless otherwise stated. This way they are yours and only yours!
Im really excited to be producing a more abstract range as well. When I started my Etsy Shop, the art had a lot of doodling it and felt more controlled. These pieces – which have bright colours & abstract drawings just keep flowing out of me. I feel so absorbed in them. Also incorporating text has been fun! I have never really investigated typography so this is a good way to explore & start.

WIP: Floral Framed Peacock

Tapestry inspired peacock watercolour drawing by Bec Brown of Clouds of Colour 1 Tapestry inspired peacock watercolour drawing by Bec Brown of Clouds of Colour 2 Tapestry inspired peacock watercolour drawing by Bec Brown of Clouds of Colour 3 Tapestry inspired peacock watercolour drawing by Bec Brown of Clouds of Colour 4

I’ve been working on this piece for the past few weeks. Each night I sit down with a piping hot liquorice flavoured tea (if any of you love black jellybeans then this is a must-try!) & draw. This…has got to be one of my absolute fave pieces! I love the floral pattern, position of the peacock & the negative space. It was inspired – partly – by old tapestries but done in a new graphic style.
Above are a few pics of it before it went off to the framers this week – I can’t wait to see it framed!
Hope you’re all having a lovely week. xobec

Shop: Barbadoes Street House Art

Barbadoes Street, Christchurch

Years ago when I studied Graphic Design in Christchurch I lived in this beautiful big 2 storied, 7 bedroom villa with a group of friends. It was one of the best years of my life. Filled with adventures, creativity and millions of fun memories with some of my absolute best best buddies. After the Christchurch earthquake, this house was not liveable anymore and is now boarded up.
I try to make a special trip to drive past it if I’m ever in Christchurch – taking a moment to remember all the fun times had.
The last time I drove past, I decided it was time to draw it. I snapped a quick pic on my iPhone and went home to sketch. This is the result.
Drawing this has made me realise just how much homes mean to us all. That the 4 walls are filled with everyone’s history & memories.
Do you have a house in particular that you’ve lived in & filled with memories? I’d love to hear your story!
PS: This artwork is available as a fine art print here.

Shop: Follow Your Art

Follow your art - floral print Follow you art by Bec Brown, Clouds of Colour 1 Follow you art by Bec Brown, Clouds of Colour 2

Its actually kind of funny how this art print came about – I was scouting quotes on Pinterest & read a ‘Follow your heart’ quote wrongly and thought it had said ‘Follow your art’. Dannnng thats clever! BOOM lightbulb moment – new print design. Follow your art with a floral heart – print now available on the Shop. And heres the result. Its everything I’m about. I love this piece so much that I went straight to the picture framers. If you need anything framed head to – The Framing Rooms, Collingwood Street, Nelson. They are just delightful!
